FSX and AAS/MyAAS

Postby neilcook_as174 » 15 Feb 2010 06:58

I'm unsure as to whether this is the correct forum to be posting this, but I need to ask somewhere, might as well be in here.

I'm new to FSX but know well enough of it's very resource demanding properties. I've discovered that running FSX on it's own will chew almost all the resources on offer, even after shutting down un-necessary processes. Firing up AAS or even MyAAS results in a lockup of the machine, even to the point of locking up the task manager. I'm wondering if this has anything to do with FSUIPC and it's settings, or is it simply that 2 Gb of RAM, a 3Ghz Intel processor and a new NVIDIA GT9800 1Gb video card simply aren't enough for FSX?

I'd value whatever feedback comes.

Neil,

Have you tried any other program that relies on FSUIPC? Test to see if indeed there may be some kind of conflict between FSUIPC and add-ons / FSX...

Neil,

It's more the fact that FSX is pretty heavy. Turn down some settings in FSX and that might free up some power.

Thanks Jim, yes I must admit to having the thing turned right up. Perhaps another 2Gb in RAM might not go astray.
Tom, I tried FlightSim Commander initially and it locked straight away. Then came AAS & then MyAAS. I watched the memory usage dwindle to nearly zilch and figured that maybe memory was the issue, but when used alone, the sim runs very well. 'tis a mystery which deserves further exploration.

Neil, try a very small footprint program (one that uses FSUIPC and runs outside of FSX). See if that too locks up FSX. To me it sounds like an FSUIPC issue...

MyAAS is actually a very small memory usage program, but I would think there are even smaller ones out there (freeware). Would have to search.

Maybe setting a restore point, and trying to uninstall FSUIPC then re-installing it might help?

problems all solved, at least until I want to add something bright & shiny to the sim ;)
